Virgin Australia has launched flight search inside ChatGPT, allowing travelers to describe a trip and be directed to Virgin Australia fares and Velocity Frequent Flyer Reward Seat options.
Virgin is applying conversational search to one of the most frustrating parts of airline loyalty: finding useful redemption availability.
Most airline members understand the problem. You may have points, but using them often means checking routes, dates, cabins and fare types across several searches. The value is there, but the discovery experience is painful.
Virgin is trying to move that experience into conversation. A Velocity member could ask for a weekend trip from Sydney, compare cash fares with Points + Pay, see better-value dates, and surface Reward Seat options without starting from a traditional booking form.
For airlines, this is where AI search can become more than another inspiration tool and reduce redemption friction, make loyalty inventory easier to discover, and keep the traveller closer to the airline’s own booking path.
